BHSF celebrates 150 years of workplace wellbeing

Birmingham-based health and wellbeing group BHSF is celebrating 150 years in business – making a difference to the lives of working people across the West Midlands and beyond.

To mark the occasion, BHSF has launched its Big 150 Pledge, an initiative championing and supporting causes that mean something to its colleagues, to create a wider fundraising legacy.

With its roots in the industrial revolution when employers first realised the value of ‘well workers’ BHSF’s vision is to work with employers across the UK to provide access to vital health services, creating happier, healthier workplaces.

BHSF has also welcomed the Chancellor’s wellbeing budget pledge of £400m to increase the availability of mental health and musculoskeletal resources for workers. BHSF supports over 5,000 public and private sector businesses across the UK, helping them keep their employees physically, mentally, and financially healthy.

BHSF’s Big 150 Pledge will bring together its 280 strong workforces across the UK, with the aim of inspiring and supporting colleagues to go above and beyond, and either fundraise or raise awareness of causes that are important to them. It is just one aspect of BHSF’s long-term plan to create and secure its future legacy, through the continued support of its communities and focus on bringing people together.

BHSF Group CEO Heidi Stewart said,

We were born to make a difference to ordinary working people when health care was extremely scarce – and the nation is once again reaching a crisis point not dissimilar to the 1800s. We have been a business for good ever since and want to help employers provide best-in-class health and wellbeing services, which more than ever, are priorities for businesses of all sizes.

We were pleased to see the government announce extra support for workplace wellbeing last week but also firmly believe that the future of accessible healthcare requires greater responsibility from employers too.

BHSF is extremely proud of its heritage and as a not-for-profit organisation our mission and values guide everything that we do. Our ‘profit-for-good’ ethos allows us to put more value back into our products and services to better support employers faced with an ever-increasing set of employee health priorities, not least because of the worsening workplace mental health crisis.

Our future vision of being the UK’s leading provider of health and wellbeing services will rely on a commitment to innovation, enabling us to make it simple for everyone to access the right healthcare support, at the right time, in a way that works for them.

To mark our anniversary and through the Big 150 Pledge, we will be celebrating our customers, our people, and our partners, reflecting on our rich heritage and legacy, but also looking forwards to how we leverage these strong values in the future.
